How do self-tanners work?

Which ingredient is responsible for the tan?
Our self-tanners contain the tanning agent dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is generally contained in most self-tanners on the market because it can be used to achieve a long-lasting, beautiful tan relatively quickly.

The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) states that self-tanning products with a DHA content of up to 10 percent are harmless to health. We do not want to take any risks with our VENICEBODY products. For this reason, our products contain a maximum of 10% DHA, which is within the permitted maximum value.

Function:
DHA combines with amino acids that are contained in our top layer of skin - this combination creates the tan. The higher the concentration of DHA in a self-tanner, the stronger the tanning effect. It is important to note that the tan produced by self-tanners looks different from the tan produced by UV radiation. UV radiation causes damage to the skin, whereas self-tanners offer a safe and effective way to achieve a sun-kissed look without harming the skin.
