What should I bear in mind when using Self Tan?

Self-tanners are a great way to have sun-kissed skin all year round without having to expose yourself to harmful UV rays. However, if you're planning to use self tan for the first time, there are some important things to keep in mind. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your self tanner:

Prepare your skin properly

To achieve optimum, streak-free tanning results with self-tanning products, it is advisable to exfoliate and shave up to 2 hours before application (not just before). This ensures that the skin is nice and smooth and can absorb the product better.

Immediately before application, the skin should be cleansed, dry and free of skin care residues. For particularly dry areas (e.g. knees or elbows), a thin layer of moisturizer can help you achieve an even result.

Use the right amount
Start by applying a small amount of Self Tan and work your way up slowly. Apply the product with even and circular movements and make sure you don't miss any spots. If you apply too much, it can look uneven and blotchy. It is better to apply several layers than to use too much straight away.

Choose the right color
There are different shades of self-tanner, from light to dark brown. The first time you use Self Tan, you should choose a lighter shade to ensure you achieve a natural look. You can always switch to a darker shade later if you feel more comfortable with it.

Avoid areas with rough or dry patches
Areas with rough or dry skin, such as elbows, knees or ankles, can absorb the self-tanner unevenly. To avoid this, apply a little less self-tanner to these areas or apply a moisturizer before applying the self-tanner.

Wait before putting on clothes or showering
It is important that you give the self-tanner enough time to dry completely before putting on clothes or showering. This can usually take between 10-30 minutes, depending on the product. If you shower or put on clothes too soon, the self-tanner can be rubbed off and affect the result.

Application time
Our self-tanners generally have a development time of 4-8 hours. During the development time, contact with water, sweating or the use of other skin care products should be avoided. After the application time, the self-tanner can be washed off with warm water. To achieve the best results, do not use soaps, shower gels or shampoos.

Care
To maintain your tan for longer, you should apply cream daily after the tan has developed and after showering (preferably with a fragrance-free and oil-free skin care product) and avoid harsh chemical peels (AHAs/BHAs).

By following these tips, you can enjoy a natural-looking, sun-kissed appearance all year round without having to expose your skin to harmful UV rays.
